This new dumpling shop is a bit of a head-scratcher (107 North Bridge Road #B1-24). The staff told me that it's a big franchise from China, but there are multiple names emblazoned here. They translated the name into Famous Chinese Dishes on the signage, but that oddly sounds like a descriptor than a brand, even in Chinese. And then there are other signs featuring the same Chinese name, but state Jie Huan Xi under it, which was the former malatang shop there. And yet the plastic plating says gucheng baozi, which actually does seem like a large franchise in China, but that name doesn't appear on the signage nor menu here.
Anyway, the more important thing is the food. They are more like Du Du Dumplings than Yuen Kee, as they offer their dumplings in boiled, steamed, and grilled form rather than showcasing the variety of fillings. Yet, they still had some interesting variations, like a black-skinned one filled with white cuttlefish inside, as well as the yellow skinned oyster and pork ones above (yep, the depth from the oyster was kinda fun). The workmanship was much sloppier than both Du Du Dumplings and Yuen Kee, but they also do things like shengjianbao here. Just skip the lunch sets since the plate of sides is unremarkable.
