Shanghai's Lao Ji Shi in China

Shengjianbao

It's ironic that we were just in Shanghai yesterday, and yet our lunch in Shenzhen today was at a famous restaurant from Shanghai. Anyway, the food was pretty good. Those shengjianbao above were more sophisticated than the stuff you get off the street, while the yellow croaker in the background was silky smooth and delicate. Their braised hongshaorou pork belly was tender, but what I liked even more were the tofu knots in the pot, as they were thick and chewy. Even things like a light soup and dates stuffed with sticky rice cakes were very refined. The only odd thing was how unpolished the service was, despite the elegant linen-clad decor. But the food was good.
