Royal Host is a big chain in Japan that I've passed by a number of times but never went into. They've recently opened a couple of outlets down here though, so we went to one this morning. I think they intentionally tried to make it more upscale over here, as the prices were higher than I expected, with that small hanbaagu steak above going for S$24 (US$18), not to mention that tiny onion soup for an extra S$7.80 (US$5.80).
We left with a decent-sized hole in our wallet thinking that we could have gone to Saizeriya instead. Even if this place was arguably half a notch up with things like broccolini and colored daikon, it wasn't worth the price. I think the menu said something about them preparing many ingredients in a central kitchen in Japan and bringing them down here, so I guess that's what you're paying for, not to mention the pretty decor.
