Yan Chuan Roasters at Kitchener Complex

Beijing Roasted Peking Duck

Yan Chuan is a wholesaler of roasted Cantonese meat out in Ubi, and they also run a commercialized retail outlet near Lavender station that is reminiscent of McDonald's or even Kenny Rogers (809 French Road #01-43, 6299-7333). They had the usual cuts of pork belly, char siew, and chicken. But they also had a prominent tagline: "The Peking Duck." If one could really get Peking Duck at a fast food-like place, then I was all in.

It's too bad then that it wasn't Peking Duck. The skin was not crispy nor sliced thinly, and there were no thin pancakes nor scallions to wrap it in. They did have a mantou option, but that wasn't quite the same thing. Even if it was more of a Cantonese duck that just got badly marketed/labeled, I still didn't like the quality of the duck itself since it wasn't very fatty. Sigh.
