I didn't even realize it until now, but it seems that
lok lok skewers from JB are different from the rest of Malaysia in that they are
fried instead of
boiled. And these folks near
Phuket Town Mookata at 340 Ang Mo Kio Ave 1 serve them at S$1 (US$0.75) a stick. The stall is impressively immaculate, and the food is fried nicely, but it also comes out glazed in a light syrup. I won't come back as a result, but I would be interested in trying some
lok lok next time we're up in
Johor.
