We somehow ended up at
Da Lian's Syed Alwi location today, and I noticed that they had an abalone version going for almost four times the price of the cheapest bowl (and one could go higher too). I'm not sure if they came out of a can or not, but they were tender and naturally sweet and savory. But I wouldn't pay that kind of
premium for it again. What was more interesting were those fried mushroom balls in the background, as they had a pleasant woodsy taste to them. They're better than the fishballs; I should ask them if they can use those in my bowl next time.
