KL's Uncle Beh Pork Noodle at EatAlley in Singapore
That EatAlley food court at the basement of Orchard Gateway doesn't look like anything special at a quick glance...until you realize that those seven stalls are actually from Kuala Lumpur. It seems that the dude behind PappaRich was a regular at these stalls back home and decided to bring them down here. Cool!
It was definitely better than that plasticky Malaysia Boleh! chain...at least, some of the stalls were. My pick was Uncle Beh from a kopitiam called Restoran Chuan Huat. The broth above was murky but hearty, if a bit acidic. It was a nice break from the usual bak chor mee around here, and the extra tender meat made it all the more easier to eat. Another stall called Koon Kee Wantan Mee similarly featured dumplings that were delightfully earthy as well. Nicely done.
I wasn't that big of a fan of Hong Lai Hokkien Mee though. Sure, it was done in a proper KL style, but it wasn't anything to get too excited about. There were also other stalls doing things like Klang bak kut teh as well as duck, nasi lemak, and beef noodles, but I'm not sure if I'll get around to trying those.
