Whoa, a suancaiyu chain from China has opened in Cupertino (10520 South De Anza Boulevard, 408-549-3087). It was much more downscale than I was expecting to be, sporting stainless steel counters and fast food-like fixed seating and tables. But that also made the prices cheaper, with that small bowl above going for just $18.99, and that's after paying two bucks more for a fish upgrade. Of course, it was an obvious notch down in quality from places like Tai Er aand Yao Yao, but for that price and location, I'm not complaining.

Just tried this place today-- super flavorful and rich soup. Agreed, the price is good! Apparently they have a bunch of locations across the globe...who knew?
