I wasn't completely sure what Hainan fen was, which was precisely why I decided to give it a try at the newly renovated People's Park Food Centre (32 New Market Road #01-1100). The gravy turned out to be thick like the one at Hong Kee, which I realize now is indeed done in a local Hainanese style. But apparently this stall is run by folks from Hainan itself, and the bowl featured things like bamboo shoots and peanuts, which instantly reminded me of Liuzhou luosifen, albeit in a much milder sauce. I'd be willing to go back to try their other items, but I need to remember that they aren't the fastest stall around, even if the line looks pretty short.
