Bistro Étroit at Orchard Plaza in Singapore

Flounder with uni

I've been eyeing this place for a while now (150 Orchard Road #01-38, 8869-8477). See, it's a narrow little French place that seats only seven diners, and is single-handedly run by a Japanese chef behind the counter. It thus features lots of Japanese produce, like a grilled Hokkaido crab that was wonderfully aromatic, sweet, and savory. That was probably my favorite item of the night next to that buttery flounder topped with uni above.

I'm not sure if they recently switched chefs, but they are marketing themselves under an "Episode 2" theme now. And while the omakase isn't cheap, it is quite reasonable considering the quality of product that you're getting. It looks like this place is indirectly related to Mezame! as well as Fukuda on the corner, plus several other small shops in this building. I'm eager to try more of them, like the oyster-focused izakaya next door.

Bistro Etroit has changed chef - the original chef has moved a few doors down to Sage. and you should definitely try Kakiin oyster bar!
