MASA Artisan Dimsum Cafe by Black Society in Singapore
It's difficult to figure out what this small chain is at first glance. It's decorated like a nice cafe, with greenery covering an atrium-like structure, pastries in a glass case, and upscale porcelain and furnishings. But the menu features dim sum, porridge, and Sichuan food, all alongside things like pastas, salads, and fish and chips. It sounded like quite an identity crisis, only to be made more confusing with its mouthful of a name; it seems that "masa" and "black society" are references to big bosses among Hong Kong gangsters.
Well, the food was better than I was expecting, with things like pasta that wasn't overcooked, as well as those fried mushrooms above that stayed crisp and airy without being over-battered (yes, in case you were wondering, that was basically laziji but with mushrooms in place of chicken). That said, I won't be coming back. Not only is it expensive, but also I wasn't a big fan of their seasoning approach, with the aforementioned pasta being a bit sweet, and those fried mushrooms needing more salt.
