It's probably no surprise that the hardly-known Japan Food Garden in the back of the Food Republic food court at Shaw Centre is gone. In its place is a counter selling Sichuan and Hunan food (1 Scotts Road #B1-02), including mala xiangguo. I was happy with our selection, especially since they didn't make it sweet like Piao Xiang has become. The level four degree of spiciness was pretty potent; next time I need to remember to downshift to the normal level three, as well as remind them not to cut the string beans into such short little pieces. Maybe I'll try some of their menu items too.
