Chen Mapo Doufu in Chengdu, China

Mapo Tofu

Everything I found online suggested that this small chain was *the* place to get mapo doufu in Chengdu. There is no relation to the similarly named Chen (Kentaro)'s Mapo Tofu, but it was just as salty and in-your-face punchy, and I loved it (much better than what we've been eating earlier this week).

We also got some red oil wontons, which were surprisingly huge, with lots of doughy skin and a slice of meat (rather than minced). It wasn't that spicy, but was interesting to try, just like their ganbian sijidou, which wasn't very crunchy nor spicy either, but was nicely salted with preserved olives or something.
