Our gracious hosts took us out to dinner in the hotel restaurant tonight. We naturally grabbed a number of requisite items from here in Chengdu, like
mapo doufu and that
dan dan mian above. They weren't as spicy, salty, nor greasy as I had hoped they would be though, and my peppercorn-garnished cocktail wasn't as interesting as I thought it would be either. Nonetheless, it was easy to shovel down bowls of rice with all of the seasonings here.
