Not to be confused with SOTPOT at Suntec City, this is a little shophouse where each table is accompanied by a giant metal drum (177 Telok Ayer Street). They use that drum to cook your food in a metal sot-ddukkung cauldron lid on top. It's kinda like seo seo galbi, but with a giant lid that is inverted to form a concave cooking surface. And they have seats here.
Anyway, this setup is obviously meant to attract attention. And it worked; it drew us here today for lunch! But if my information is correct, sot-ddukkung cauldron lids usually aren't set up on a metal drum. And the jjimdak braised chicken that we ordered above isn't usually cooked in a sot-ddukkung either. So I'm not sure how true to form this all is.
That said, I guess we had fun with the theatrics of it all, even if the food quality wasn't anything great; I didn't like anything in their banchan, and I also wasn't very impressed with the single-serving sets that they offer at lunchtime. But at least that chicken above was nice and peppery, and they were so generous with the portions that we had to cancel our scorched rice option, as we had no stomach space left.
