Foodland: Hawaii’s Home For Poke

From left: fresh crispy onion ahi poke and au Hawaiian style poke

It's time for poké now that I'm back in Hawaii, and this local supermarket chain called Foodland apparently is one of the better places for it. It even brands itself as being "Hawaii's Home For Poke."

I went there towards closing time, so a lot of today's selection was gone, but I was still able to get both this the ahi tuna one on the left as well as a traditional au marlin one on the right. The former was done with "crispy onion," which really wasn't crispy by the time you ate it, but one still got a roasted shallot taste in there. It was actually kinda chewy and sweet, making me prefer the cleaner salty one on the right instead. The chunks on the right were pretty big, but it was cool that it had local inamona nuts put into it.

By the way, one of the varieties that were still remaining tonight was a raw crab and kimchi poké. Those white crabs weren't very big though, which made it seem like it'd be a little tough to eat.
