Sushi Nakamura at Onze @ Tanjong Pagar

Trio-style seafood donburi

There used to be a sushi restaurant in this location called Kaunta. I had never tried it, but apparently it was famous for affordable omakase sets as well as a Tokyo-inspired kaisendon and dashi combo. They have since shut down, and now there is a new sushi shop called Nakamura in its place (11 Kee Seng Street #01-12, 8908-7964). The staff told me that it's a completely different owner and restaurant, although oddly their Facebook page still has multiple references to Kaunta, so I guess their digital assets were part of the deal.

Anyway, they are an upscale sushi counter doing reasonably-priced omakase and even donburi for lunch, with that one above going for just S$19 (US$15.50). The portion was naturally pretty small at such a low price, but there were firm chunks of grilled bonito in there, chopped up into the rice. Everything was of high quality, and yes, a bowl of dashi came with it for you to hitsumabushi away). I may very well have to come back for a proper omakase meal one day given the good standards here.
