I noticed these snails in the spread at an outlet of HJH Maimunah and was curious to try them. They sat in a lemongrass curry to form a traditional Malay dish called lemak siput sedut.
The snails weren't as much of a hassle to eat as they could have been, as the other end of the shell was cut off, thus making it easy to suck the meat through without needing a toothpick. That said, they didn't have much of their own taste (and were not as firm as I thought they would be), so it was really more about the curry instead, which was fragant and even a bit spicy, thus facilitating rice ingestion.
I am not sure if I bothered others at the table with my loud sucking sounds. The snails also got a but mucilagenous in some cases (think: natto). It won't be the first thing I'll reach for, but I'm glad that I tried it.

I remember reading this blog when I was in elementary school in the 2000s. I cannot believe you are still posting! Incredible, it's like an SG food scene time capsule!
