Three Pizza Shops in Lower Manhattan, New York
Tonight was pizza night, and it wasn't even really for New York-style pizza. Our first stop was a Neapolitan place called Kesté Pizza & Vino (77 Fulton Street, 212-243-1500). Their basic margherita featured a pleasantly rich cheese, but the thing that I liked even better was the montanara above, as its fried crust was crispy and greasy, and also featured a wonderfully smoked cheese and tomato sauce on top. Thumbs up.
We then went to Gnooco (337 East 10th Street, 212-677-1913), a northern Italian place whose Roman-style crust in a lower temperature oven turned out very dry and thin. I liked the amatriciana much more than that margherita above, not only since it was a little spicy, but also since it was dripping in oil.
Finally, I hit up Prince Street Pizza (27 Prince Street A, 212-966-4100). This was a local place that did rectangular cuts of a thicker crust that kinda reminded me of what one would get at a school cafeteria. But it was better than it sounded, not only since the tomato sauce was deliciously savory, but also they were generous with those greasy and salty "roni cups" on top.
