This unassuming izakaya looked rather promising when we went in, especially with its counter seating (207 River Valley Road #01-58, 6219-3430). And the food was indeed pretty good, including not just that grilled fatty sardine above, but also the yuzu kosho-accented karaage, smoky deep fried bamboo shoots, and sous vide monkfish liver. Their ika shiokara was also pleasantly polished without being excessively salty. It's just too bad then that they fell completely flat on their face with their beverage recommendations. Between that and the transactional rush to get you out of there exactly when your two hours was up, and I don't really want to go back, even if I did like the food.
