When I opened up this tin of sardines, I was surprised at how small they were. It turns out that was because they were a specific variety of pilchard sardines from Spain. Yes, I liked these delicate slivers more than the big ones that one oftentimes gets in cans. And I even drank the remaining oil with a teaspoon, as it was not only rich but also pleasantly savory. Thumbs up.
where do you get your canned seafood from? I'm in a bit of a canned seafood phase but whatever is cheap isn't good and whatever is expensive is hard to find!
ReplyDeleteI think that one was from Little Farms, but I'm usually on the lookout for any interesting cans that I might come across, including some surprises at FairPrice Finest.
ReplyDeleteCouldn't agree with you more @bma.. I am pleasantly surprised by the selection at Cold Storage / Finest these days though the better ones there are around $4.50-8 a can (in spring water / EVOO tend to be cheaper than the fancier ones drowning in mediterranean spices... ) which isn't too far off from what Little Farm sells for $8-11 a can!
ReplyDeleteThe one in this post looks fairly simple though, so I wonder if it is any better than what you find in Finest. How much were these (Shines) again? I will one day travel back to Spain + Portugal and dump my suitcase with all manner of canned goodness - not just fish!
