La Saigon at Alexandra Central, Singapore
This unassuming little Vietnamese cafe is tucked away in the corner of an upper floor of a small shopping center next to IKEA (321 Alexandra Road #02-26). At first glance, I wouldn't have thought much of it. But we gave it a try anyway, and I'm glad that we did.
It was impressively good, particularly because they pay attention to the ingredients. That included their coffee beans (and they even make their own yogurt!), but also their bold use of herbs, particularly lemongrass that came through in a number of items like chicken wings and even that dipping sauce above.
Now, the phở was rather pricey at S$16.90 (US$12.40), perhaps because they used Australian beef. But I'd like to come back to try more of their menu, putting their bánh mì in a shootout against my favorite Bami Express.
