The Oxtail Stew from Mariner's Corner in Singapore
I went to Mariner's Corner tonight, in part because I was drawn by their pitch for this oxtail stew: it seems that Hainanese chefs from the colonial days were known for this dish, and this was the family's recipe from those days. Yes, it was fall-off-the-bone tender, and it came out piping hot in that clay pot with a mildly tangy sauce.
The other reason why I came here was the novelty of the destination itself: the decor is a time warp to the 80's. The staff was friendly and attentive, and it was surprisingly busy tonight too, filled with families. Now, none of this was so exciting that I'll come running back, but I left with a smile on my face.
