El Indio Mexican Restaurant in San Diego, California

Mordiditas and Tamale

This place was on my way back to the hotel tonight (3695 India Street, 619-299-0333). Despite the X-berto's-style items on their menu, they told me that they were best known for their tamales, so I grabbed one of those, along with something I had never heard of before: mordiditas, which is that plate on the left featuring cut-up taquitos covered in nacho cheese. Neither of them were bad, but they didn't blow me away either. At least there were some roasted whole green chili peppers available on the side that helped to crank up the heat. Actually, the best thing that I had here was probably the chips, which were thick and full of greasy corn flavor.
