The Beast Restaurant in Toronto, Canada

boar lardo + ramps + smoked mustard + crostini

I'm really surprised that there weren't more customers in this place (96 Tecumseth Street, 647-352-6000). I nearly thought it was closed when I arrived, only to find that there were a few diners inside. It was a shame since the food was good too; they only use local ingredients from Ontario, and are rather playful with their menu, like the boar lardo crostini above, or a charred endive dish laced with smoked beef fat and some kind of sweet ash meringue.

I happily gobbled down everything that I ordered, including a rainbow trout and some extremely tender sliced beef hearts. The only thing that I wasn't huge on was the sticky toffee pudding, which was extremely sweet...perhaps more than gulab jamun. That and the fact that I came out of there smelling like grease (my Uber driver had to roll down the window again on the way back). But those smells sure made me salivate when I was in there.
