Hot Dog on a Stick (Cheese, Actually)

Hot Dog on a Stick

Heck, as long as we were in a shopping mall's food court, I figured I might as well take advantage of it and go to that ubiquitous food court outlet that I actually do enjoy: Hot Dog on a Stick.

In this case, it was actually a Cheese on a Stick, but the mildly sweet corn meal surrounding the rich melted Pepper Jack interior hit the spot, together with that giant but very fresh lemonade (with cherry syrup added, of course). So much for that healthy food that I was looking for earlier today.

This is going to sound a bit random as I just stumbled upon your blog recently while looking for good examples (pictures) of traditional Japanese breakfasts. I'd like to say that I was instantly drawn to your witty and informative posts--which I am now--but really, I started following your blog because I completely agree that Bourdain has one of the most awesome jobs out there.

I'm curious about the "Hot Dog on a Stick" franchise. After my initial connection with Jeff Dunham's JalapeƱo (on a stick), I was kind of struck by the name. I'm from the South and from what I can tell, this is just a corndog (or a cheese-dog, in your case, though that definitely is not as appealing sounding). Is there any difference, other than a variety of what can be put within the cornmeal exterior? Or is this simply a regional or marketing thing?

It is just a corn dog, but the appeal for me is the shop's long Southern California history, all with its very loud uniforms and freshly made lemonade (really, you get a smirk on your face when you see them hopping up and down on that pogo stick-like thing in order to create the lemonade in that giant bucket). I suppose a bit of childhood nostalgia influences me as well.

BTW, that was just cheese (no meat) on a stick. You can read more about these guys here.

dear hungry dude,

do you know how to make corndawgs? me and my friends live in germany - where people eat way too healthy... we once tried to make them ourselves but it was a great mess and the corndogs tasted rather funny...

thanks for your help, dude!

Aww, this reminds me of the California Lemon Hotdog in the Dip chain (formerly?) in Singapore. Any idea where one goes for a decent corn dog in Singapore?

Was that the one at Marina Square? I remember being very happy to see it when I first moved to Singapore, as it did indeed seem similar to Hot Dog on a Stick...in concept, anyway. I don't have as good of an impression of the food itself. Anyway, it's gone now, and no, I don't know where to get a corn dog in Singapore these days.

I saw some corn dogs at cold storage in Great World. It's in the section with the roast chicken and ribs

Dear readers,
I work at Hot Dog On A Stick and I am offended that none of you know the difference between our delicious Hot Dogs and gross corndogs; corndogs are FROZEN and ours are freshly made for you as soon as you order them. Your welcome for enlightening you and I hope you have a great day
