This was a new one for me. Having tried many of the items at
Simply Sandwich already, I went for something new: a so-called Ploughman, which I'd never heard of before. Only later did I realize that this is actually quite common in British pubs...at least, in the original non-sandwich form with a big hunk of cheese.
Actually, the thing that probably distinguishes this the most is the brown pickled relish, which ends up giving it a bit of a sweet character and hence not a huge fave for me (I don't even really like relish on
Chicago hot dogs). But I sure do like that cheese.

The bread looks like ciabatta, kinda weird to have Italian bread with cheese ploughman.
Maybe it'll work better with a bag of crisps (potato chips) and a cup of hot tea. Haha. And definitely (soft) sliced sandwich bread instead of a hard ciabatta.
Yeah, actually that was my choice. They originally suggested sliced bread but it was something with sunflower seeds in it, which I wasn't too keen on.
Yeah. You wouldn't want the little chips (after chewing) of sunflower seeds mixing with the pickles or cheese. You're right to say that plain bread's the way to go.
Looks like you *love* your sandwiches. Have you been to Steeples' Deli in Tanglin Shopping Centre? (the old pink building next to the St Regis site) The place does pretty decent burgers and sandwiches and I adore the peanut butter cookies...
You mean these guys?
That's it. Glad you revised your opinion for the better though! Yea I get cravings for the place. The corned beef's good alright but I go for the burgers most of the time. I like it that way, lean and "less dressed". Ate at Louis Lunch (http://www.louislunch.com/) in New Haven, supposedly the birthplace of "the" American burger; for me Steeples' plain burger comes the closest in SG, except for the bun of course.
I went to Simply Sandwich after reading your blog, but was deeply disappointed with my roasted chicken sandwich! Their idea of a toasted sandwich is simply half baked. The bread was barely warm. I had mine on plain ciabatta and it was really bland. It needs a slather of pesto or a little mustard or heck, even a bit of mayo. The roasted chicken wasn't even roasted, I think. It was nice and tender, but had hardly any taste in it. By the time it partnered the sandwich, it didn't taste of anything at all.
Perhaps it was because I went at 2pm and the toaster wasn't up and running or perhaps a newbie made my sandwich. But I think, with Robinson Road having so many other sandwich choices, I'll simply skip this place and head for something else.
