This was not a place that I had expected to like as much as I did. See, it just seemed like any other cafe at first glance, despite their background in running a barista school. I just as much figured that there would be a lot of forgettable standard-issue cafe dishes to go with your usual latte art-adorned espresso drinks.
But when we stepped in, I was taken aback by their beverage-forward approach, including a range of filter pours, respectable-looking cocktails, and even natural wine and a lambic available. The food was in the form of small plates, all done with high quality ingredients like those cute little fried potatoes above topped with savory cuts of duck meat and some smoky cream underneath. They used proper bread and butter for dishes like the kaya toast and patty melt, and it was all done with care too.
To be sure, the bill added up quickly. But this is the kind of place that I would be happy to go back to given their appreciation for quality. Note though that this menu is specific to their Foundry location (11 Prinsep Link) rather than the new outlet in the city.
