Chunxiang Mo Cuisine in Beijing, China

Beef

This little place out in the Haidian district's Zhongguan Village Hongjia is a bit out of the way (8 Dongbeiwang West Road Building 23), but they serve Huaiyang cuisine, which is from Jiangsu if I understand it correctly. And apparently this shop is run by a family of respected chefs named Mo.

They brought out a bazillion dishes for our dinner party, and it was all very delicate and respectful of the ingredients. I was happy to see things like a lightly peppered eel and a couple of tender tofu dishes, including a shredded tofu soup and some tofu with crab roe, if I tasted it correctly.

I liked how they took care in their knifework here too, as witnessed in a small pile of finely chopped leafy greens that were fun to eat with its faint but uniquely bitter taste. The quaint wooden decor in a less urbanized part of town added to the overall charm. That was a nice meal.
