Yong Bak Kut Teh off Mohamed Sultan in Singapore

Bak kut teh

That dark broth above may look like an herbal Malaysian-style bak kut teh, but it was actually a peppery Singaporean version from a corner kopitiam at 219 River Valley Road. It tasted fine, but it was also a heck of a lot more expensive than I was expecting it to be at S$9 (US$6.60) for that set above. Sure, one would probably pay something similar from places like Song Fa, but this was a kopitiam, and I had to ask her to repeat the price to make sure that I had heard her correctly. I don't think I'll get it again.
