Serenity in Taipei, Taiwan
Here's something that you probably don't hear about very often: a Bib Gourmand place serving vegetarian Sichuan food without garlic nor onions (1 Zhenjiang Street Lane 1, 2357-0377). What? How the heck does one do Sichuan food without garlic?? I can understand no meat nor onions, but garlic?
Well, it worked. Things like the mushroom and wood ear dish in the background were more obviously vegetarian, but it was good, as were the mayi shangshu glass noodles in front. I only wish that they used more Sichuan peppercorns; instead, they seemed to use some kind of pre-made sauce.
By the way, they have a house beer here...and it's non alcoholic. To my surprise, I didn't mind not having meat, garlic, onions, nor alcohol in my meal tonight. But one thing at the end irritated me: they don't take credit cards. Crap. I'll still come back to try some of the other stuff that Michelin suggested though.
