My First Taste of Formosa Chang in Taipei, Taiwan
It turns out that this is some very old luroufan stall that has since commercialized into a chain with a logo of the bearded founder. The staff helped me order some of their signature items, including that luroufan above.
Yes, the pork was tender and tasty...so much that all of the meat disappeared before I had even realized it. The more exciting part though was the rice, whose small pearly beads were distinctly firm, all while being lubricated in that pork fat.
I also had a plate of pork shank, which came in a garlicky sweet sauce, but was easy to eat when washed down by their bitter melon soup. That said, if I come back here, then I'm just going to focus on the luroufan.
