National Kitchen by Violet Oon at National Gallery Singapore

Dry Laksa

Seriously, how does this place *not* have a Michelin star?? They used quality ingredients, had high attention to detail, and the Peranakan-based cuisine is very unique (1 Saint Andrew’s Road #02–01, 9834-9935). I pretty much liked everything that was provided in our corporate banquet tonight, and local celebrity chef Oon herself even came by to say hello. Oh yes, the décor was lovely and service was attentive too.

Even if the Michelin inspectors didn't feel it was worth a star, I'd think that it could at least qualify for a Bib Gourmand rather than a mere pleasant fork and spoon listing (I'd much rather eat here than at that Liao Fan place by the Hong Kong Soya Sauce Chicken Rice & Noodle folks). Then again, Burnt Ends didn't get much recognition beyond a guide listing either, so I'm really wondering what the inspectors didn't like about this.
