I've been eating oysters almost every other day this week, and I'm still not tired of them! This rowdy shop (1228 Hamilton Street, 604-609-0080) gave me three varieties of local oysters ranging from mild to sweet to creamy, not to mention a huge array of hot sauces to go with it, including some based on habanero and Scotch bonnets.
Perhaps more impressive was something called a slapjack chowder, which was made from oysters and was thicker than the one from Taylor down in Seattle. But I didn't care much for the Haida Gwaii candy, which were sticks of a local jerky-like salmon that were laced with black pepper but were also mildly sweet and boringly dry too. Fortunately, the prices here were reasonable.
