I noticed this when passing by the fruit vendors on the ground floor of
Tiong Bahru Market this morning. The clove-like white meat under that thin scaly skin was much firmer than I was expecting, all while carrying a mildly tangy taste. Yeah, it was better than I was expecting. Apparently it's the fruit of a short palm tree from
Indonesia.

Cool! I just had these in Bali. I took it off the fruit basket at a nice restaurant over there... Not bad taste and texture isnt it? I'd say its a cross between an apple, jackfruit and starfruit!
