We headed down to Geylang Famous Beef Kway Teow (237 Geylang Lorong 9, 9388-0723) for a late meal tonight. This time, I made sure to order the "dry" beef hor fun version to see how it would stack up to Hong Kong. The good thing is that it largely turned out well. Freed from the misery of that gooey brown stuff on top, this one burst of a greasy aroma like I wanted it to. There were some very minor differences, such as the use of celery tops and egg in it (not to mention a borderline excessive use of ginger), but by and large, it was better than I was hoping for. Still, I have to admit that I wasn't completely satisfied due to the fact that this place was missing the key Cantonese chili oil. Sure, they had some sliced pickled chili peppers and a sweet red chili sauce available here, but it was still not that Cantonese chili oil that I absolutely love. Oh well.

The beef hor fun used to be much better; but there was a change in cooks about a year back, so now it's (comparatively) terrible!
