Pav Baji at Bombay Woodlands

Pav Baji

OK, I've been eating this a lot lately, but this one may have been the best thus far. Normally I prefer Raj to Bombay Woodlands, but this one in particular impressed me with the rich and spicy baji and finely sliced onions with a squeeze of lime. What a nice little snack.

    Can someone please explain to me why, when Indians have all this GREAT bread, they serve this with boring old toasted hot dog buns? I just don't get it

    It works, though. It may look like boring bread, but it's light and fluffy with a buttery aroma (and this is coming from a guy who doesn't usually like bread). It's definitely a far cry from a boring hot dog bun.

    yup....'pav' is a local bread in Maharshtra and Mumbai, and the butter makes it quite...yum..

    "pav" is actually the marathi word for western-style bread (from the portuguese pão). It probably wasn't so boring to the Indians who invented the dish a long time ago, it was an exotic new taste to them.
