Yee Chong Yuen Noodle Restaurant
This place is supposedly pretty well known ("the famous Holland Village Ipoh Horfun"), but I was not impressed at all. Granted, I've never been to Ipoh before to know what real Ipoh hor fun is supposed to be like, but this was just bland and boring - there was nothing exciting about this. I also grabbed some of their shredded chicken porridge since it looked and sounded pretty good, but similarly, this was very bland (and the grease in the yio tiao had a weird taste). I practically had to drown it in soy sauce at the table - and they didn't even have white pepper available on any of the tables.
They also had a special dry fried hor fun, which fortunately got a little better with a lot more taste, but it definitely still fell short of Hong Kong. This place is quite popular, but I just couldn't get with it.

The Ipoh horfun place was much better a long time ago, back when it was still house in a grotty kopitiam. Now it's just like any other foodcourt product.
I had the occassion to visit Ipoh on a business trip last year, and got to try the real thing. It's definitely much better, though it's still a relatively bland dish.
Try this one instead. It used to be at a coffee shop in Tanjong Pagar and it was great stuff. Haven't eaten there since they moved though: Lee Tong Kee Ipoh Sar Hor Fun 278 South Bridge Road Singapore 058827
erm.... the dry fried hor fun looks suspiciously like char kway teow, no?
