Japan's Sushiro at Tiong Bahru Plaza, Singapore

Prawn Sushi

A big kaiten sushi chain from Japan has opened an outlet at Tiong Bahru Plaza (302 Tiong Bahru Road #02-118, 6970-2293). It's drawing some big crowds during its opening week, presumably due to both curiosity as well as opening specials like otoro for only S$2.20 (US$1.60).

The good thing is that they don't mess around with the food: you won't see ridiculous rolls of fried things drowning in mayo here. There are honest items like akagai and kani miso moving around on those belts (you can also order individual items via an automated delivery system).

But the food wasn't anything special (and oddly, they didn't put much wasabi into the sushi itself, even if there were packets of it available if you wanted it). The bill wasn't that cheap in the end either. If I'm on the hunt for affordable but quality sushi, then I'll go to Tomi, Ikeikemaru or Numazu Uogashizushi instead.
