National Kitchen by Violet Oon at National Gallery Singapore

Dry Laksa

Seriously, how does this place *not* have a Michelin star?? They used quality ingredients, had high attention to detail, and the Peranakan-based cuisine is very unique (1 Saint Andrew’s Road #02–01, 9834-9935). I pretty much liked everything that was provided in our corporate banquet tonight, and local celebrity chef Oon herself even came by to say hello. Oh yes, the d├ęcor was lovely and service was attentive too.

Even if the Michelin inspectors didn't feel it was worth a star, I'd think that it could at least qualify for a Bib Gourmand rather than a mere pleasant fork and spoon listing (I'd much rather eat here than at that Liao Fan place by the Hong Kong Soya Sauce Chicken Rice & Noodle folks). Then again, Burnt Ends didn't get much recognition beyond a guide listing either, so I'm really wondering what the inspectors didn't like about this.
