A Disappointing Hindu Meal on SQ

Hindu Meal on SQ Economy Class

Oh man, that was nasty. After such a long streak of great in-flight Indian food, this one was just wrong. The double-wrapped meal with a piece of flatbread looked encouraging at first, but inside lay an unappetizing fish curry paired with mushy peas that I didn't even bother finishing. Chutneys were provided but no pickles. This was such a letdown that had this been my first ever Indian meal on an airplane, I never would have ordered it again.

Well, I am going to keep eating them though...this was only one out of nine that didn't go over well, so I'll assume that tonight's was just bad luck. Maybe the problem was because of the local caterer in Hong Kong. Now that I think of it, I've never really enjoyed my SQ meals out of HK. At least I didn't get one of those old school non-VOD planes like I got on the way up.

Hi! I recently discovered your blog and am happily devouring your every entry. I confess that I totally envy your fooding lifestyle! As a recent college graduate also from California, I am looking for a job that can take me around the world like you. Do you have any suggestions? If you don't mind my asking, what do you do for a living that lets you travel so much?

I've never had a good fish meal from SQ before.

I just got back from HKG and have to agree about the catering. It somehow isn't that great. My fish in bean sauce is too salty, but that's the HK style I guess. Oh well.

We envy you travel all around the world, I really love to fly! But what a shame you can't cook by yourself, it's a very funny thing to do! If you come and visit our blog you'll find some places where you could eat good food....but you would have to come to Italy.....

I have a simple explanation to why SQ catering ex-HKG isn't as good as other cities especially Singapore: Cathay Pacific. Cathay's catering department makes the food for most airlines ex-HKG and when trying to do. The food always is weird when Singapore or other Asian food is cooked cantonese style, and the quality is also lower than Changi's kitchens.

bma doesn't usually respond; when he does it's never about personal...

I assume he works in international business, although that's very generic.
