I randomly came across this shop at Lucky Plaza (304 Orchard Road #03-39, 9457-7363) and went in because of a sign that said that they were the first ones to bring this empal gentong dish to Singapore. It's a soup from West Java that seemed similar to sup kambing given the texture of the very tenderly stewed meat as well as the slightly thick broth.
But of course, sup kambing is made from mutton, whereas this was made from beef. The broth was spicy, but not in a peppery way. Instead, this one was heavy on cardamom with a bit of coconut. Or at least, the shop's version was, and the small cuts of meat went well with the earthy broth. I was quite happy to slurp this up in seconds.
