A sign at an outlet of this small chain of
kopitiam stalls caught my eye today: black pepper
mee pok. It turned out to be your typical bowl of
Teochew noodles, but replace the Chinese vinegar with a mildly thick black pepper sauce. It wasn't particularly edgy in any direction, which meant that I'd rather have vinegar in mine. But I still ate this with ease given its tender meat, firm noodles, and earthy soup loaded with shallots.
