Haohuanluo Luosifen from Liuzhou in Guangxi

Haohuanluo Luosifen

I read about how this stinky river snail noodle dish has been compared to durian and was immediately intrigued; apparently a Chinese student in Italy even had the cops called on him when a neighbor suspected that the aroma was a bioweapon. It turned out not to be anywhere that extreme though; the smell basically came from bamboo shoots, and I like bamboo shoots. Otherwise, it was pretty much the salty, spicy, and sour thing that I had expected it to be, making it perfect after a night of heavy boozing. Note though that that entire packet is actually a single serving and also requires more than ten minutes in the pot.
