It's places like this that make
Batam fun: open air restaurants on wooden stilts
in the water with big tanks of live seafood in front, reachable by dirt road (555 Bengkokng Laut, +62-778-411138). Now, we weren't very hungry, and thus our only protein selection was the plate of baby squid in the center (in retrospect, I should've asked for them grilled or sautéed rather than
battered). But we cleared the smoky
bee hoon and
sambal kangkong quickly. And it was all just 214,000 Rupiah, or US$15. Next time we should get some
ikan bakar.
