I've never had a proper
poutine before. So on my first visit to Montréal, I came to this 24 hour shop specializing in the stuff (994 Rue Rachel E, 514-525-2415). They had a lot of varieties, but I went for the classic just to make sure that I got the basics down first.
The gravy was rather tasteless, but the cheese curds were interesting as they were firm and squeaky when you ate them. The potatoes themselves were much better than I thought they would be too, especially given how they fried them for a long time. I'm not exactly going to get cravings for this, but I can imagine how one of the other varieties might be pretty good after a number of drinks.
