Pizzeria Bianco in Phoenix, Arizona
Pizza wasn't exactly at the top of my mind when coming all the way out here to Phoenix. But every time that I searched for good restaurants online, this shop kept showing up, including on lists of best pizzas in America. Pizza sounded pretty good after finishing up with meetings over the past couple of days, so I came down here to see what all of the fuss was about (623 East Adams Street, 602-258-8300).
And it was indeed a nice place, with super friendly staff in a cozy little brick building next to a school. Yes, the pizza was of high quality, with that tomato-less pizza above featuring naturally sweet onions that went nicely with the fennel sausage. The crust had a good texture as well, even if it was a bit on the dry side. In that sense, I prefer Pizzeria Mozza over this, although the ironic thing is that Nancy Silverton is apparently a big fan of this place.
