This was the strangest bowl of
bak chor mee I'd ever had (724 Ang Mo Kio Central Market and Food Centre #01-39). It was Makansutra-listed, so we were expecting something like many of the
other listings. But this one was covered in a mildly sweet brown sauce, and even had some deep fried wonton skins on it or something. While I'm glad I tried this variation, it just wasn't what I was looking for.

Strange indeed. More like a "lor mee" than "bak chor mee". I don't really like food purveyors who take liberties in renaming their food. E.g. "apple strudels" in Singapore is NOT what real apple strudels should be!
...or renaming Apfelstrudel.
Actually it is more like bak chor mee than lor mee. For some reason, I think THB's bowl just happened to have more sauce than normal? (I frequent the store.)
That said, I do agree that the store's version does have some slight differences compared to the usual bak chor mee served. The fried wanton skin offers a satisfying "crunch" when you break and mix it with the noodles!
Just a heads up: saw your photo on this website. http://www.foodcritic.sg/hup-hup-minced-pork-noodle/
Thanks for spotting that. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, eh?
