Tokyo's Menya Takeichi in Singapore
A ramen shop from Japan has opened up at the Eat at Seven area of Suntec City (3 Temasek Boulevard #03-313, 6235-3386), with this one focusing on tori paitan. It was a lot better than I thought it would be. The "rich" broth was thick like Marutama's, and yet light and savory in taste. More importantly, those slices of chicken were delightfully smoky, thus being light years ahead of the one from Hajime. Plus their condiment selection included whole sesame seeds, sansho from Kyoto, and a surprisingly potent red chili sauce that went great with those little gyoza. I'm definitely coming back here again.

You might like to try Kagari in Ginza next time you're in Tokyo - the Tori Paitan ramen there was amazing!

Only made it back to Takeichi today, more than ten months later. Boy, has it untaveled: bad service, lukewarm food, tableside seasonings in need of refills. What a shame, since it was actually pretty good before. Now I don't want to go back.
