I finished a meeting near Chinatown tonight, and I hadn't had dinner yet. Somehow the thought of some
malatang came to mind, perhaps because I was walkable to
People's Park. So I found this stall, where one picked out a few things (the selection of which was definitely more limited than what was available in Shanghai), to which they boiled it and then dunked it into a spicy mixture. It hit the spot, and the soup, to my surprise, was much more savory and delicious than I was expecting.
